Unsigned again

So for those of you not paying attention, the Unsigned boards have been dying. And it is your fault, you need to pay more attention.
For those of you who are paying attention, I'm sure you are tearing your hair out and can't stop crying.

But now I'm back! I have started developing for Unsigned again. I will never work on it as hard as I did during Spring '08 but I will continue steady development. I have fixed almost every bug in the Bug Reporting forum and I plan to do a release soon.
After that, I will work on making the interface more user-friendly. Because, after working on CG releases on the xbox, going back to Unsigned makes me cringe. I have learned a lot going through the process of working on these commercial games (Cubage, Mineage) and that will be seen in Unsigned.
Something else I will work on is the long awaited 2D mode. My laptop can barely run Unsigned. It is sad. So I want to play too, and now I have the motivation to make this happen.
I will also upgrade to XNA 3.0, which means easier-to-implement online play. And I may be able to work with WMAs and MP3s instead of just OGGs!

As a side-note about Mineage, I found out that those huge fields destroy the framerate on xbox, so I am working on fixing that now.

So wow! I just took a few hours to write a batching system and... Wow!!!

That is a 48x48 field! Over 2300 spaces in there! It used to be 32x32 grids dropped the framerate to an unplayable place, but now you can be playing mine sweeper for hours based on how hard this is...!

Well, it has been a while since I've posted, so I figured I oughta let you 4 people who actually read this know that I am still alive. I guess I will just rant on some XNA/CG subjects.

The first of which is ECHS BACHS a.k.a. Archor Games. This particular member of XNA seems to think that a reskinning of a sample that Microsoft published is worthy of being put up on Community Games and making him money. Though this post is a bit late (it seems he pulled his "games" down), I imagine there will be more like him and I suggest anyone who will be buying games from the CG platform to be weary. I will try to post about these Game Developer Imposters, so you can keep up with the pile of crap, ignore it, and buy good games.

So, it looks like Cubage is going to be re-released. It will be released in the UK, and have a minor overhaul. A couple new features include: customizable settings, various themes, two control schemes, a main-menu help screen, and skippable logo/credits. The release changes are trivial and mostly cosmetic. The big thing is just that the Brits will have a chance to play with a digital cube.

Minesweeper is hitting a bit of a snag. I have a lot of issues to fix and very little time to fix them. I am still hoping to have it out by the Holidays though.

And I still have two unannounced projects I am working on. Expect one (a multiplayer-party-puzzle-logic game) before the end of January and the other (A full 3D battle game) before the end of March.

And, finally, for those of you who didn't notice, I added forums to the FV Productions site.
Join up! I will have a link from the main site soon.

As far as I know, it will be available for purchase for 200 Microsoft Points as a Launch Title with the NXE. Of course, that is all subject to change. Wooot!

Well, I just submitted "Cubage" to Xbox Live Community Games. We'll see how that goes! If I can pull off a couple of decently selling games, I can quit my job and have more time to work on Unsigned! Bwahahaha. Or not. Who knows?

Woo! XNA 3.0 is out! I hope to have the first of my Xbox Live Community Games titles submitted by tomorrow night. XNA 3.0 also supports some new Audio stuff (with MP3s and Oggs mebe?) so I will probably upgrade Unsigned. Maybe it will help fix a lot of syncing/lag issues because it will be an official Microsoft library, instead of IrrKlang. And... holy crap! We may be able to use Oggs on Xbox! Those of you who have tried it using wavs will be happy to hear that! Woooooo!
